We are sitting in a functional kitchen!

It is time to celebrate! Crews finished the electrical work and installed the new appliances and our contractor—while supervising that—fine-tuned features of our cabinets. Here’s a mini tour:

The island as you walk into the kitchen from the mudroom. The hallway beyond links to the basement and the living room (through the cherry doorway you can see).
Our new refrigerator and surrounding cabinets. The contractor will still need to close the gap at the top. The doorway (with the plastic still on because (clearly) we still have paint to be finished, leads to the dining room.
The view from the door that leads to the living room and basement toward the. Mudroom hallway. The stove is on the right of the small counter (behind the laptop). As an aside, the electrician still has to fix the one pendant light.
Our new induction range. We can’t use it until we both bake out the newness (per our experts), which we cannot do until it’s cool enough to run the whole house fan to vent the fumes. Our new range hood also is not fully installed because our contractors are custom making some duct work. That means that we can’t really use it to cook anything stinkier than water for a while.
The new sink, dishwasher and additional windows. The dishwasher has two drawers so that we can run one or both together—for a big load as we are doing now—or a small daily load to keep up with regular life. That means as one drawer runs, we can fill the other (AND NOT THE SINK!)
The dishwasher is so quiet that we can’t hear it as we listen to upcoming news, this Tuesday, August 1. The counter to the left is still covered because the range-hood parts that will be installed are stored there.

We plan to move in extremely slowly so that we know how best to use the space. That’s also prudent because there is still quite a bit of work to do to finish up. In the meantime, we are beyond thrilled to have the ability to bail on the basement kitchen! We have our first dishwasher loads in process to start moving in!

Our cabinet guru, T, urged us not to load up the counters while finishing work is ongoing. I told him that I intend that NOTHING is on our counters unless they are currently in use! He suggested that, like his mother, we do not ever cook bacon in the kitchen. No, I explained, that’s why we have the powerful range hood! (Go bacon!)

This extremely exciting day is even more thrilling because our contractor met our (unstated, unless they read the blog) hope that our kitchen would be functional by our anniversary in three days.
